Greater Yellowstone
The Greater Yellowstone ecosystem encompasses some of our nations most recognized and most cherished wildlands and wildlife. Roughly the size of West Virginia the ecosystem is predominantly wild and intact. Within Greater Yellowstone the headwaters of three major river systems – the Yellowstone, the Snake, and the Green – support a renowned trout fishery and are the lifeblood of agriculture, towns, and cities. Nonetheless, the region is now being pursued for oil and gas development. Pressure to drill is growing and unbridled oil and gas development is threatening negative impacts on wildlife migration and populations, water resources and traditional rural lifestyles.
