Rosemont Open Pit Copper Mine – Arizona

Arizona is ranked 5th among the 19 states with toxic emissions from the metal mining industry. Eighty-nine percent of the total reported toxic emissions in Arizona (more than 34.8 million pounds) have come from the mining industry, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Toxic Release Inventory. Nearly 230,000 acres of public land in Arizona - an area one-fifth the size of Grand Canyon National Park - have already been sold to private interests for either $2.50 or $5.00 per acre.  This heavily subsidized sale of public land is allowed under the federal 1872 Mining Law.

EcoFlight is collaborating with Earthworks and Save the Scenic Ritas by providing over-flights in the fight against the Rosemont open-pit copper mine proposed in the scenic Santa Rita Mountains of southern Arizona and over the proposed Resolution Copper Mining Project in Arizona.
